Nestbox building is a good activity for the autumn, ready for occupation (hopefully!) the following spring.

Maintenance

Ideally boxes should be sited during the autumn and winter, but very often those put up in the spring will be occupied during the breeding season. In subsequent years all the boxes should be inspected prior to the breeding season and old nests removed. This reduces the chances of the birds becoming infected with parasites during the following season. Any repairs can also be carried out at this time.
