School strikes have been held today by tens of thousands of young people in over 100 countries. The world’s young people are uniting to demand that political leaders take greater action to prevent climate change.
Here in the UK, some 10,000 young people gathered in Parliament Square, London to demand action. Environment Secretary Michael Gove praised their actions, saying “Collective action of the kind you’re championing can make a difference, and a profound one. Together we can beat climate change.
The response to climate strikes from the House of Commons been mostly muted. A debate on climate change, held in the aftermath of the previous UK school strike, at the end of the UK’s warmest ever February was poorly attended, showing that the young people’s message has not yet been properly heard.
